TWO TITLES, TWO NIGHTS, TWO SPEEDWAY TRACKS

The Victorian Microsprint Association is excited to announce that not only is the Australian Microsprint Title going to be run for the first time in Victoria, the first   Victorian Microsprint Title will also be up for grabs.

And to make it even easier for Interstate competitors it will be held the very next night after the Australian Title at the picturesque Laang Speedway, only 1 1/4 hours drive from Portland.

And if that is not enough, it will be held on the same night and at the same venue as the Final of the hugely successful Oval Express Formula 500 Series that attracts competitors from all over Australia and America.

With over $1,000 dollars in prize money and Trophies up for grabs at the Vic Title it will make the trip to Victoria well and truly worthwhile.

A very excited Victorian President Mark McLean said, “The event has come to fruition thanks to the tremendous support of the Laang Promoter and Australian Formula 500 President Ken Willsher. Ken and I have spoken quite a bit about the two classes working in together and saw this as a fantastic way to achieve this aim.

Add to the fact that every competitor that makes the trip for the Australian Title can back up the next night at the inaugural Victorian Title will help showcase our cars to the National media and a fan base that are already up to speed with ’pocket rockets’, but perhaps not aware of how quick our cars are compared to the 500’s.

It will also help competitors with travelling costs, as they can effectively in 1 week, race at the 3 Premier events in Victoria, The Australian Title, The Victorian Title and on the way home the Victorian leg of the National Series at Wangaratta. I strongly urge all drivers to plan their holidays around these events!”

The Victorian Microsprint Association would like to sincerely thank the Southern 500 Speedway Club, Laang International Speedway and Wangaratta City Speedway for assisting with running of these events.

Information packs will be mailed out to ALL registered Microsprint Australia competitors soon as well as available on the web site. Stay tuned.

Victorian Microsprints Growing Fast
Mid 2008 saw Microsprint Victoria President Mark McLean with a vision. That vision to introduce the predominately NSW and QLD based Microsprint class to Victoria.

Mark began his vision with a fact-finding mission to watch the Micro's race at Goulburn NSW. With more than enough help, support, encouragement and information from the NSW and QLD racers and officials to sink a battleship Mark held an extremely successful information night.

From that night emerged three drivers, Graeme Porter, Andrew Baker and Craig Mannix who made a commitment to build or purchase a Microsprint. Mark's next step was to secure a race meeting and where better to start than getting a round of the Tricorp Security 10000 National Microsprint series to Victoria.

All three Victorian drivers made they're debut at that Tricorp event in January 2009, they're competitiveness surprising both spectators and fellow competitors. From that successful event car numbers have continued to raise, Victoria now has eleven registered cars, some racing locally and on the National level. Interest in the Victorian Micro scene is increasing by the day. Anyone interested in racing this exciting, cost effective, winged class please contact Mark McLean on 0406455695.

The Victorian Microsprint Scene
The Victorian Microsprint scene is set to come alive this season with a successful information night held last night. With the two cars already being constructed on display a great deal of interest was shown in the class by all who attended. The McLean Racing HQ was full of people from all areas of local speedway from promoters, drivers, officials and casual onlookers.

Mark McLean gave a run down of the class, its origins and the proposed future of the class in Victoria. He also detailed the up-coming Tricorp Security 10000 which will raise the profile of the Micros in Victoria.Craig Mannix recounted their fact finding mission to Goulburn and the racing action they witnessed,as well as the hospitality shown by the NSW drivers and officials.Afterwards a DVD was shown that highlighted Micro racing whilst everyone enjoyed the supper. Many questions were asked as the cars were inspected, prodded and poked and tried on for size.

One of the attendees stated he will have a car up and running for the Portland round of the TRICORP 10000,starting his campaign by ordering a motor from the US later this week.Another couple stated that they are intending to purchase completed cars in the not too distant future.

"We now have to get a couple of cars completed and start to promote the cars throughout the whole of Victoria, but I am certainly buoyed by the success of tonight." stated a exited Mark McLean. We will also be holding a committee meeting early next week to officially formulate a club now that we have sufficient interest to warrant that action. In the words of the late great Aussie legend,Big Kev "I'm excited" he said.

Any Victorian that is keen to get into this high speed, low budget class contact Mark McLean on 0406455695.

The Tricorp 10,000 Series

The Tricorp 10,000 as the series will be known will run one round in Victoria, two rounds in NSW and two rounds in Queensland with the final round set for the Easter weekend at the Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba next year.

Drivers are being incentified to go hard from the word go with prize money on offer at each round and the driver with the highest points score for the serries come the final night feature race at Charlton will collect a cool $1500 before the main race even starts with another $3000 on offer for the feature winner on that night.

Affordable Microsprints are and yet the racing is second to none with very close hard fort battles for every position and surprisingly very respectable lap times are posted at every venue they run.

Australian Microsprints share all the same technology as their American cousins, with brands such as Stellard, PMP, RTS and a few local manufactured chassis such as Bill Roberts chassis are all being used in the weekend battles. In recent times a few F500’s have been easily converted to run under the Microsprint rules.

Microsprints are the challenge that proves to be too irresistible to ignore and has help launch many a speedway career here and in America.

Former Australian Microsprint Champion and Sprintcar star Troy Little will again belt up in a Microsprint as time permits in his Sprintcar schedule to have a crack at the 10k purse.

The 2008/2009 national rule book is almost ready for release and most teams are already very busy preparing cars and inventory for an assault on the Tricorp 10,000.

Microsprints may race hard but come, the end of the night it is all about mateship with a friendly yarn or two and being involved in the greater Speedway family.
